If your problem cannot wait until the surgery is open an on-call GP service provides full emergency cover. The contact number is 111.

 An emergency is defined as an Accident or illness for which treatment cannot wait until the surgery is next open. For example:

  • CHEST PAIN NOT RESPONDING TO TREATMENT
  • ACUTE ASTHMA
  • SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINED SEVERE PAIN
  • SEVERE HEADACHE
  • SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN
  • POSSIBLE BROKEN BONES, SEVERE CUTS, EYE/HEAD INJURIES

In all these cases go to the nearest A&E department or call 999.

Common illnesses that are not normally emergencies are:

  • EARACHE
  • FLU AND COUGHING
  • SORE THROAT
  • BACK PAIN
  • VOMITING AND DIARRHOEA
